Multiple Battery Sizes for Volvo EVs

Volvo has something in the works to meet the needs of all consumers. When their first electric car launches in 2019 it will be a compact model sporting a 100 kilowatt-hour battery and offering over 250 miles of range. But what’s most intriguing is that for each EV to follow, multiple battery sizes will be offered.

“For each electric car, we will typically have at least two different battery sizes on offer,” Volvo R&D boss Henrik Green stated in a recent interview to Auto Express. “The base variant will be more cost-efficient, but with a slightly limited range…

Make the Right Choice and Buy Replacement Auto Parts at the Dealership

Buying parts for your vehicle should be easy, but too many people are getting these replacement parts at discount auto shops and wondering why they are going back time and time again to get it right. Stop by the dealership one time to get the parts you need the first time.

The parts you find at those independent parts stores tend to be cheaper for a reason; they are manufactured with inferior components that may or may not fit your vehicle perfectly. This means to spend less now but be back paying again and making the same repair in the…

Volvo Mitigating Turbo Lag

We’ve all experienced turbo lag. The delay between summoning acceleration from the car’s throttle and its (delayed) response from the engine. Volvo engineers have found a seemingly simple and effective solution for combating this challenge.

Volvo engines currently only offer four-cylinders. In order to achieve six-cylinder power, they have set their sights on turbochargers to achieve six-cylinder numbers from inline-four which can lead to significant turbo lag. But of course, leave it to Volvo to come up with clever solutions.

Technically, turbo lag can’t completely be eliminated. However, Volvo is, of course, coming up with some clever…

Volvo’s Drive Me Project

Special Volvo vehicles are being delivered to lucky families in a brand new initiative called the Drive Me project. Instead of relying on researchers alone, Volvo will obtain feedback from these families on specially outfitted XC90 SUVs. This valuable feedback will allow Volvo to make crucial adjustments to its self-driving system based on actual daily use.

For now the XC90s will be traditional vehicles, though equipped with Pilot Assist, Volvo’s system of semi-autonomous driver aids. In the future Volvo will slowly introduce the families to increasing levels of autonomy and they’ll receive special directions for operating the more…

2018 Hybrid XC90 Bigger and Better Than Ever

It’s been three years since Volvo debuted the XC90 SUV which launched them into a new era. But the 2018 plug-in hybrid model promises to introduce more big changes to the flagship luxury SUV, making it even more impressive.

The most powerful version that is currently offered in the XC90 is the twin-engine T8 trim in the existing plug-in hybrid. The 2017 twin-charged engine and electric motor combine to produce 400 horsepower, a huge accomplishment for a 2.0-liter engine. But thanks to an increased battery capacity, the XC90 will become even better in 2018.

This increase in battery…
