How to Maintain Your Headlights

Are your headlights getting dim? Is it difficult seeing to drive at night? Maybe your headlights need restoring. Here are some things you can try if you like DIY projects.

  • Toothpaste: Toothpaste is one of the easiest products you can use on your vehicle's headlights to bring them back to their original condition. It may or may not work on yours, but it is worth a try. Just moisten a rag with warm water and apply toothpaste to the headlights with that. A few minutes of scrubbing could reveal clearer headlights after washing the product away.
  • Insect Repellent: Scratches, yellow and cloudy headlight lenses have been returned to a clear finish with this method, but be cautious about getting any on the paint. Saturate a rag with the insect repellent and scrub the lenses.
  • Sandpaper: Sandpaper can totally ruin headlight lenses if you don’t know what you are doing. So, if you do try this method of polishing away the scratches, just understand that you may need to buy new headlights when you are finished.
