Volvo Collabs with Lynk & Co.

Beginning next year, Volvo will start a new collaboration effort with Lynk & Co. at its plant in Ghent, Belgium. The two brands share the same CMA modular platform for compact cars and this is just the latest announcement of many collaborative efforts between the two, following Volvo’s acquisition of a 30 percent stake in Lynk & Co. last year.

Lynk & Co. is another brand under the ownership of the Chinese auto giant Zhejiang Geely Holding, which owns Volvo as well. “We see a big potential for this new brand entering the European market and we are happy to give Lynk & Co. the support of Volvo’s technological and industrial expertise,” Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in a statement.

This partnership will also increase Volvo sales and benefit its suppliers. The Belgium plant is where Volvo produces its compact cars like the V40, XC40, and V60 small wagon. Lynk & Co.’s 01 is nearly a twin to that of the XC40 under the hood. The upcoming 03 compact sedan and 04 compact hatch are also expected to be closely modeled off that of the S40 and redesigned V40 from Volvo.
