Volvo Says Farewell to Gas

Volvo’s current lineup of gasoline-powered engines will be its last, the Swedish luxury company recently confirmed. Moving forward, it will begin to solely pave the way for a fully-electric future.

At the new V60 reveal earlier this month, Volvo’s CEO Hakan Samuelsson said that its current engines are at the end of the road and there are no future budget allocations for gas-powered engines. However, that doesn’t mean that its current engines will no longer serve a purpose. The plan to electrify every one of its models beginning in 2019 and beyond will include hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

The brand’s current engines will be replaced with more-powerful electric motors, and future models could possible boast rear-biased all-wheel-drive systems because of the electric motors.

Volvo aims to follow the Polestar brand into an all-electric future, with its focus on sedans, crossover SUVs, and wagons. Which model are you most excited to see become electric?
