The Right Way to Jump Start Another Car

Before attempting to jump-start another vehicle, be sure to have safety glasses and gloves, a wire brush, and a quality set of jumper cables.

Once the nose of each car is touching, turn off the engine and open both hoods. If there is any corrosion on either battery terminal, now is the time to use the wire brush to create clean contact points.

Take the two red cables and place one on the bad battery first, then the positive end of the good battery last.

Take the two black cables, in reverse order, you will put one on the negative side of the good battery, then anywhere you have a good metal contact on the car with the bad battery.

Start the car and wait, turn the other engine over.

Don't keep delaying getting a service check-up for your vehicle at Principle Volvo Cars of San Antonio because it's running fine now, protect that investment instead.
