Volvo San Antonio Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Principle Auto Group joins the campaign to bring awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in San Antonio. More than 220,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer each year, but thanks to generous donations, continued research, better screenings, and early detection, breast cancer death rates have been declining.

In our effort to bring more awareness to this cause, here are some facts about breast cancer:

  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime in the U.S. alone.

  • About 95% of all breast cancer in the U.S. occurs in women over the age of 40.

  • Mammograms are suggested yearly screenings that can help reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer anywhere from 20-40 percent.

  • The U.S. has roughly 3 million breast cancer survivors -- the largest group of cancer survivors of any cancer.

  • Every 19 seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with breast cancer.

  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.

If you or someone you know would like to participate in a breast cancer screening and awareness day, the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation will be hosting one on Thursday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Neighborhood Place (3014 Rivas St.) in San Antonio. Anyone is welcome to attend and information will be passed out and questions will be answered.

There are many great local and national organizations supporting the fight against breast cancer. We encourage you to stand with us and spread awareness. For more information about how you can get involved check out the Susan G. Komen website, American Cancer Society website, and Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation website.
